American Eagle Silver Coins

The United States government first introduced Silver American Eagles in 1986. Since that time, they have quickly become one of the most preferred options for investing in silver bullion.

The Silver American Eagle Coin Design – Much like the Gold American Eagle, the design for this silver coin was repurposed from a previous American coin. This attractive coin shows an image of a flag-draped Lady Liberty before a newly rising sun. The Silver American Eagle coin debuted in 1916 on a half-dollar coin originally designed by Adolph A. Weinman. These vintage coins are today considered an attractive find.

The reverse side of the Silver American Eagle coin was designed by John Mercanti. It depicts an eagle with a shield that carries the symbolic olive branches and arrows within its talons. Above the eagle is an inverse pyramid with 13 stars to represent the 13 original colonies. Encircling the outer rim of the coin are the words, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA . 1 OZ. FINE SILVER~ONE DOLLAR.”
