Nearly ten years after the first production of Gold and Silver American Eagle coins, in 1977 the United States government issued Platinum American Eagle coins. These coins became the number one platinum selling bullion coins across the globe.
The Platinum American Eagle Coin Design – The front side of the Platinum American Eagle coin features the face of the Statue of Liberty, designed by John M. Mercanti. He also designed the reverse side of the Silver American Eagle coin. The reverse side of the Platinum Eagle coin featured a unique design for every year from 1998 to 2002. The series was known as the “Vistas of Liberty,” to honor a different region each year.
The Platinum American Eagle Coin Mint – A platinum coin is 99.95% pure. Because platinum is somewhat rare, the 1 oz. Platinum American Eagle coin continues to have the highest face value over any other American coin minted: $100 US.
American Government Guarantee – Platinum American Eagle coins hold a special advantage over other platinum bullion based coins. The United States government guarantees the coins’ content and weight as well as 0.9995% purity.
About Platinum – Platinum is in fact one of the world’s most rare and scarce precious metals. In addition to coins, platinum is used in many industrial applications. About one in five consumer products contain platinum or are produced with platinum.
