Gold Canadian Maple Leaf

The Royal Canadian Mint markets the Gold Canadian Maple Leaf coin as the International Symbol of purity and for a good reason. This stunning coin is 99.99% pure gold. The coin has been produced since 1979. It was minted originally with 0.999 fine gold, but in 1983 the gold content was increased to 0.9999 fine gold. Gold Canadian Maple Leaf coins must be handled with added care due to a high gold content that is known to scratch or mark more easily than 1 oz. gold coins of less purity.

Gold Canadian Maple Leaf Design – The front side of the Gold Canadian Maple Leaf coin features a bust of young Queen Elizabeth II, which was updated in 1990 to feature the Queen in a more mature portrait. In both versions of the coin, “ELIZABETH II” appears above her portrait, and the face value and date of issue appear near the bottom of the coin.
A distinct Maple Leaf, the national symbol of Canada by which the coin gets its name, is on the reverse side of the coin. The front side of the Gold Canadian Maple Leaf coin shows the country name and the amount and purity of the gold. The wording is displayed in English and French, the two national languages of Canada.

Gold Canadian Maple Leaf Minting – The Royal Canadian Mint is not only the nation’s official mint but was also the initial worldwide mint to produce 99.99% gold bullion coins commercially and became the first mint to produce a 99.999% gold coin. The Ottawa, Canada, branch of the Mint has been operation since 1908, while the main production branch today is located in Winnipeg.

Canadian Government Guarantee – The government of Canada offers its guarantee of purity, weight, and legal tender value for each Gold Canadian Maple Leaf coin. This famous coin has been recognized internationally since its introduction in 1979.
