Investors and collectors alike are attracted to the French Angel Gold Coin. It is also referred to as the Lucky Angel Coin, rich with innate beauty, history, and a fairly short minting period. The Angel Gold Coin was styled after the Louis D’Or 1 in 1972, designed by Augustine Dupre. Dupre was sentenced to the guillotine during the time of the French Revolution, and legend has it the Angel Gold Coin brought him luck in a stay of execution. As well, it was said that Napoleon Bonaparte carried the French Angel in his pocket, losing it on the night before his fateful Battle at Waterloo.
French 20 Franc Gold Angel Coin Design – On the front side of the Gold Angel Coin is the Guardian Angel, Genius, as she inscribes the French Constitution upon a tablet. A small pillar stands to the left and a rooster to the right. The words “REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE” are imprinted across the top. The coin displays the denomination, the date of issue, and words “LIBERTE EGALITE FRATERNITE” encircled by a wreath on the reverse side of the coin.
French 20 Franc Gold Angel Coin Minting – The Gold Angel 20 Franc Coin was minted in the same design over three different periods. Today, the coins are available from the 1871-1898 mint (some of the years in between yielded none). The Gold Angel design was briefly used 1848-1949 and again 1899-1906, in which the rim of the coin held the inscription, “DIEU PROT’G’ LA FRANCE.” The French 20 Franc Angel Gold Coins were minted in Paris.
