The Austrian Mint began production of coins in 1194. In 1992 and 1995, the Austrian Gold Philharmonic coin became the best selling gold bullion coin in the world (per the World Gold Council).
Austrian Gold Philharmonic Design – The front side of the coin depicts an attractive collection of fine orchestral instruments: a bassoon, cello, harp, four violins, and a Vienna horn. The coin bears the German name for the orchestra: “WIENER PHILHARMONIKER.” The back side of the coin displays the grand organ in Vienna’s Golden Concert Hall, Musikverein, where the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra plays. Also shown are the date of issue, weight, fineness, and face value in Euros along with the official country name, “REPUBLIK OSTERREICH.”
