The American Eagle Gold Proof Coin is a collector’s version of the world-famous US Gold Bullion Coin. Since a limited number of these proof coins are struck annually some years are known to have sold out just after issue. Proof American Eagles are minted in various bullion sizes including 1 oz., 1/2 oz., 1/4 oz., and 1/10 oz. They can be purchased in these sizes individually, or in two or four-piece sets.
American Eagle Gold Proof Design – The US Mint copied the design for front side of the coin from the $20 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle coin. This is considered by many to be America’s most prestigious gold coin featuring an elegant Lady Liberty design by sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Theodore Roosevelt commissioned the $20 Saint-Gaudens coin as a rivalry for coins of ancient Rome and Greece.
The back side of the coin was designed by Miley Busiek and depicts a signature male bald eagle clasping the symbolic olive branch within its talons as it swoops into the nest of its young. This inscriptions “E PLURIBUS UNUM” “IN GOD WE TRUST” are shown here along with the gold content, purity, denomination, and issuing country.
American Eagle Gold Proof Minting – These proof gold coins undergo a comprehensive minting process using specialty dyes. Lustrous blanks are manually fed into presses and struck multiple times so as to ensure detailed coin images. This results in a frosted and reflective appearance. The American Eagle Gold Proof Coin is packaged in a beautiful velvet case and includes an official US Mint Certificate of Authority to guarantee the coin’s gold content, weight, and purity.
Individual Retirement Accounts – According to the US government, Proof American Eagles are currently the only collectible coins allowed Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs). Note: Tax laws are subject to change at any time. Consult with your tax advisor about precious metals for your IRA.
