American the Beautiful Silver Quarter Design – Each fine coin is 3” in diameter. The front side of the coin is a near duplicate of the US quarter including the 25-cent face value, but these Silver Coins are almost double the size and 5 times in silver content of the Silver American Eagle coin. In 2010, the US Mint began a series of 56 quarter-dollar coins with designs of national parks and sites. This 3-year US Mint America the Beautiful Quarters® Program was extremely successful and appealing to the public.

2012 COINS

  • Acadia National Park in Maine – Early visionaries of the 20th century donated this beautiful land on the great coast of Maine. It later became Acadia National Park, the first east of the Mississippi. The park is home to Cadillac Mountain, the tallest on the North Atlantic seaboard. The reverse side of the coin depicts the Bass Harbor Lighthouse along with the rough Acadia coastline.
  • Chaco Culture National Historical Park in New Mexico – This historical park home to the world renowned Chaco Canyon, the center for Native American culture between 850 and 1250 AD. The park sites are said to be the homeland of the peoples of New Mexico as well as the Hopi and Navajo Native American tribes. The reverse side of the coin illustrates a western view and two kivas that make Chetro Ketl Ruins Complex.
  • Denali National Park and Preserve in Alaska – The park was expanded from 2 million to 6 million acres in 1980, preserving the lands. The name of the park was changed from Mount McKinley National Park to Denali National Park and Preserve. Today, it borders the glorious Mount McKinley, the tallest in North America (at 20,320 feet). The reverse side of the coin displays a Dall sheep before the majestic Mount McKinley.
  • El Yunque National Forest in Puerto Rico – El Yunque National Forest, located in Puerto Rico, is the sole tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System. Despite the forest’s relatively small 28,000-acre size, it is significant for its immense biodiversity and is popular with visitors for its year-round tropical climate. The reverse coin design depicts a Coqui tree frog sitting on a leaf and a Puerto Rican parrot behind an epiphyte plant with tropical flora in the background.
  • Hawaii Volcanoes National Park in Hawaii – The park was established in 1916, the results of over 70 million years of volcanic action and natural earth processes that went produce bare land from the sea. These activities created a unique ecosystem surrounded in beauty and human bounty. The reverse side of the coin depicts a scenic volcanic eruption of the eastern rift of the Kilauea Volcano.  

 

2011 COINS 

  • Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Oklahoma – This unique coin is designed in honor of the Chickasaw National Recreation Area, named after the birth of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States. The reverse side of the coin features the Lincoln Bridge, constructed of limestone. This historical site is a favorite scenic location in Chickasaw.
  • Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania – It was the summer of 1863. The Battle of Gettysburg was a union victory by General Robert E. Lee and one that would end his most assertive invasion of the North. This victory was a true turning point of the Civil War. The reverse side of the coin displays the 72nd Pennsylvania Infantry Monument.
  • Glacier National Park in Montana – This famous park was named for its prominent glacier-formed terrain and the many remaining glaciers that descended from the Ice Age over 10,000 years ago. The reverse coin image shows a traditional view of the northeastern slope of towering Mount Reynolds.
  • Olympic National Park in Washington – From rippling tidepools to the 7,980-foot ice-capped peak of Mount Olympus, this glorious park crosses 70 miles of oceanfront along the Pacific. The reverse image of the coin displays a Roosevelt elk standing on the Hoh River with regal Mount Olympus in the background.
  • Vicksburg National Military Park in Mississippi – This park commemorates yet another of the pivotal battles of the Civil War. This monumental site honors Vicksburg, Mississippi. The reverse coin image offers a period depiction of the USS Cairo along the Yazoo River, as it was during the Civil War.
